Welcome to Silent Book Club's Hoboken Chapter (aka "Hoboken SBC"), where reading meets community on your terms. As part of a worldwide network of book lovers, we favor independent reading choices and organic connections over assigned books and monitored discussions. If a traditional book club were an English class, you can think of Silent Book Club meetups like spending recess at the school library. (Many of our attendees enjoy attending both types of gatherings!)
Simply bring whatever you're reading—paperback, e-book, comic book, cookbook, graphic novel, or audiobook—the choice is entirely yours! We also welcome other quiet activities, such as knitting, journaling, doodling, and crafting - anything, as long as it doesn't disrupt those around you.🤫
Each meetup lasts approximately 2 hours and follows the following structure:
Participate as much or as little as your social energy allows! Feeling like reading for the full two hours? Go for it. Prefer to leave after quiet time? That's fine too. Everyone's comfort level is different; it's your decision how you choose to engage during our meetups!
Registration & Cost
Registration is required for all meetups due to limited venue capacity. RSVP links are available under the Upcoming Meetups tab.
Hoboken SBC is volunteer-run and most meetups only request a suggested donation to cover administrative costs & supplies for future gatherings. When we meet at private businesses like a coffee shop or a cafe, attendees are encouraged (never pressured) to support the venue by making a purchase if they're able.
